What Happens Before Your Appointment?
Everything starts with a consultation. We need to get to know your dental situation, medical history, and what is driving your need for general anaesthesia.
This is not a formality. General anaesthesia affects your whole body, so we look at the complete picture. We review medical conditions, medications, previous experiences with anaesthesia, and your overall health.
We also talk honestly about whether GA is the right choice. Sometimes patients discover a lighter option might work. Other times, GA really is the best path. We figure it out together.
What Happens on the Day?
You arrive with your support person, the someone who will drive you home and keep an eye on you afterwards. You cannot drive for 24 hours after GA.
The anaesthetist meets with you, answers any questions, then administers the anaesthetic through an IV line. Within moments, you drift off.
While you are out, the anaesthetist monitors your vital signs continuously. Meanwhile, our dentists complete your treatment, whether that takes one hour or several.
When the work is done, you wake up in our recovery area feeling groggy. Our team stays with you until you are ready to head home.
