What are Dental Crowns?
Dental crowns, often referred to as caps, are custom-made restorations designed to cover and protect a damaged tooth. Made from high-quality materials such as porcelain, ceramic, or metal, crowns provide strength, durability, and a natural appearance. They may be a suitable option for restoring teeth that are broken, worn down, or severely decayed. Results vary. Individual assessment required.

Why patients choose Dental Crowns

Dental crowns offer a number of advantages, which is why they’re a popular treatment choice:
- Strength and durability: Crowns provide protection and may last for many years with proper care.
- Natural appearance: Made from materials designed to match the appearance of natural teeth, crowns work toward a natural-looking result.
- Improved function: Crowns may restore the function of damaged teeth, supporting your ability to eat and speak comfortably.
- Versatility: Crowns can be used to address a variety of dental issues, from covering a large filling to protecting a tooth after root canal treatment.
What are Dental Bridges?

Dental bridges are used to replace one or more missing teeth. They consist of one or more artificial teeth (pontics) anchored by crowns on adjacent natural teeth or dental implants. Bridges address the gap created by missing teeth, working toward restoring your smile’s function and appearance. Results vary. Individual assessment required.

Dental bridges offer several advantages, making them a considered option for replacing missing teeth:
- Restored function: Bridges may restore your ability to chew and speak by filling the gaps left by missing teeth.
- Natural-looking result: Custom-made to match your natural teeth, bridges work toward a natural-looking smile.
- Preventing shifting: Bridges may help maintain the alignment of your remaining teeth by preventing them from shifting into the gaps.
- Oral health support: Replacing missing teeth with bridges may help maintain the structure of your jaw over time.
Precision, artistry and care at every step
Step 1: Initial Consultation
Your treatment begins with a comprehensive consultation at Dentélle by WDC. During this visit, our experienced dentists will evaluate your dental health, discuss your needs, and determine a suitable treatment plan for you. We’ll take digital impressions, photographs, and X-rays to create a precise treatment plan tailored to you.
Step 2: Preparing your teeth
For dental crowns, we’ll prepare your affected tooth by removing any decay and reshaping it to accommodate your crown. For dental bridges, the adjacent teeth (abutments) will be prepared to support your bridge. This process ensures a proper fit.
Step 3: Customising your Crown and Bridge Design
Using the digital impressions, our experienced dentists will design your custom crown or bridge. The restorations will be crafted to match the colour, shape, and size of your natural teeth, working toward a natural-looking result.
Step 4: Temporary teeth while you wait
While your permanent crown or bridge is being fabricated, you’ll have temporary teeth fitted to support function while you wait. This lets you continue your daily activities during the fabrication period.
Step 5: Placing your crown or bridge
Once your custom crown or bridge is ready, you’ll return to Dentélle by WDC for the final placement. Our dentists will make any necessary adjustments before permanently bonding your restoration in place. Results vary. Individual assessment required.
Risks and Recovery
Crowns and bridges restore damaged or missing teeth, but like any restorative treatment, they come with risks and recovery considerations.
Possible risks include:
- Temporary sensitivity to hot or cold after placement
- Gum irritation around the treated area
- Risk of fracture or loosening of the crown or bridge under excessive force
- In some cases, further treatment such as root canal therapy may be required if the underlying tooth becomes compromised
Recovery considerations:
- Many patients resume normal activities immediately after treatment
- Mild sensitivity usually improves within a few days
- Avoiding very hard or sticky foods at first can help protect the new restoration
- Regular reviews and good oral hygiene are important to maintain long-term function
