How the Process Works
CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. The name is a bit of a mouthful, but the steps are easy to follow.
We start by preparing your tooth, removing any decay and shaping it to accept the crown. Then, instead of taking a traditional impression (the gooey tray most people dread), we use a digital scanner to capture a precise 3D image of your tooth and your surrounding bite. That image feeds directly into our in-house milling machine.
While the machine carves your crown from a solid ceramic block, you wait comfortably. Dogtor Bruce or Dogtor Dave are usually on hand if nerves are running high, and they are excellent at their jobs. Milling takes around 15 to 20 minutes. We then check the fit, shade and feel, make any fine adjustments, and bond the crown permanently into place.
Done. Permanent. Ready to use.
Here’s the Thing About Quality
People often ask whether same-day crowns are as good as lab-made ones. It’s a fair question.
CEREC crowns are made from high-strength dental ceramic and designed to match the shade and shape of your natural teeth. The materials and fit have come a long way, and for the vast majority of standard cases, outcomes are clinically comparable to traditional methods.
That said, some more complex restorations may still call for a lab-made crown. If your case falls into that category, we’ll tell you honestly after your assessment and explain why. Our recommendation will always be based on what’s right for your tooth, not what’s fastest.
